About Gate13
Mission
The name Gate 13 is a reference to the women’s western entrance of Masjid Nabawi in Madinah. The author of this blog, Umm Hassan holds an affinity to this gate as it is where majority of her journey seeking knowledge took place. Within these gates the sound of ‘ilm echoes from corner to corner. The bustling of the circles of Quran and mutōon memorization, classes of the Ma’ahad and Kulliyah, and the live lectures of the ‘ulamaa of Madinah playing on the loudspeakers. Gate 13 is a symbol of ṭalab al-ʿilm being alive and well for the Muslim women and a standard that should be emulated worldwide.
Gate 13 aims to call to Allah تعالى according to the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم with the understanding of the salaf as-sālih. This blog was created to be a space for women to benefit and seek knowledge on the issues that concern them the most. Gate 13 is an effort to connect classical Islamic academia to the English speaking world all while being accessible and user friendly.
With Allah’s guidance and complete reliance of Him the Gate 13 mission is to inspire and motivate women to embark on the path of ‘ilm in a time where they are needed more than ever.
