Shaykha Kamilah bint Muhammad bin Jassim bin Ali Al-Jaham Al- Kuwari حفظها الله
Kamilah was born and raised in Doha, Qatar where she graduated with a bachelors in Shariah from Qatar University. She later completed her Masters and PhD in Egypt (below are the details of the universities and her thesis topics):

Kamilah completed her memorization of the Quran when she was 17 years old, she stated in an interview that she owes that largely to her parents who encouraged her to seek knowledge and memorize Quran. She describes how the pursuit of knowledge became beloved to her in her young age which led her to attend classes and pursue Islamic knowledge further. She went on to complete her bachelor, master’s, and PhD within the Islamic sciences. After her years studying, she spent 14 years working as a researcher for the Zakah Fund in Qatar and then a researcher for Qatar’s Ministry of Awqāf and Islamic Affairs and most notably an author of dozens of books in various Islamic sciences.
Kamilah is nicknamed خادمة العلم الشريف which means the “custodian or servant of sacred knowledge”. She explains that the reason she turned her life to authorship and being in the service of knowledge is due to a memory she had with her father. She recounts a time when her and her late father, may Allah have mercy on him, were reading the book At-Targheeb wa At-Tarheeb of Imam Al-Mundhiri where they had come across the ahadeeth mentioned in the chapter of the virtues of knowledge. She recounts a passage narrated from Ibn Mubarak stating:
«لا أعلم بعد النبوة درجة أفضل من بَثّ العلم»
“I don’t know after prophethood a level higher than spreading knowledge” this passage awakened her desire to dedicate her life to the pursuit of spreading knowledge.
Kamilah has authored over 20 books in various sciences, ranging from Aqeedah, Fiqh, Usool al-Fiqh, Qawa’id al-Fiqhiyah, Tafseer, Seerah, Arabic grammar, Logic among others. She also contributes to turning manuscripts into mainstream printed works by way of doing tahqeeq (a Muhaqqiq’s job is to search the world’s libraries gathering all transcripts, fragments, and publications available of a book up to date, comparing them, and then re-writing the book itself and clarifying to the reader any discrepancies between the handwritten manuscripts as well as previous publications/editions. As well as hadeeth referencing, explaining unfamiliar words, places, individuals, etc.).
Anyone who familiarizes themselves with the works of Kamilah Al-Kuwari will notice she prioritizes the books of Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen and Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on them both. The reason for this, as she mentions in the introduction of her explanation of Ibn Uthaymeen’s book, Qawa’id al-Muthlā, is a dream she had that influenced her greatly. She recounts a dream she had where Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, may Allah have mercy on him, had come to her and told her to focus on the works of Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyah and Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen. After this dream she put emphasis into explaining, summarizing, and presenting the works of these two illustrious scholars that now serve as a continuous charity for them but also for the Shaykha Kamilah Al-Kuwari, may Allah preserve and reward her.
Kamilah Al-Kuwari is a true testament to the potential of female scholarship in the 21st century. A scholar in her own right but also an example of exemplary authorship. She should be a role model to all tālibāt ‘ilm showing us that giving back to the ummah is not limited to teaching in-person classes for women but also in producing valuable works for both men and women that will live on long after one’s death.
May Allah preserve Shaykha Kamilah Al-Kuwari, reward her for her service to the ummah and increase her rank, in this life and the next.
